Top 5 Things Social Media did for me

When I started publishing articles on social media in 2022, they were terrible. You can see it in the picture below. I had just started my consulting business and had my first client. As a startup, how do I get more customers? I cannot go to Shark Tank to present my company or spend millions of dollars on venture capital advertisements. In addition, there are more than enough foundry consultants out there, and during that time, not many foundries were using Rheocasting, which is my USP.

It is 2024 now, and I publish a new article each week. Every Tuesday at 7:45 European Central Time, you can read it on this website, LinkedIn and in the newsletter. If you haven’t subscribed, do so today. Would I have thought I’d have a newsletter when I started in 2022? No, it didn’t even cross my mind.

After the newsletter’s commercial break, let’s go back to 2022. I kept posting one article each week. I never missed a Tuesday, whether it was Christmas Eve or a vacation day. I just kept writing and publishing these articles on social media. And amazing things happened along the way.

  1. The articles got a lot better! But better in which sense? Although they are far from scientific standards, people like reading and interacting with them – maybe just because of that. The knowledge and experiences I wanted to share have a totally different package. They give you an idea or an issue to think about that you haven’t thought about.
  2. Creativity is nice to have, but it is never consistent. I had to find ways to write high-quality content in the right genre each week, even when creativity didn’t strike. One major breakthrough was the discovery of maker- and manager-time. It improves the time-boxing method. If you would like to know more about it, let me know. It is worth an article of its own.
  3. Because of the frequent and vibrant feedback, I could determine the industry’s pressure points. People from OEMs, Tier 1s, and foundries read the articles and found a description and a solution for their problem in my articles. They contacted me, and we discussed their situation. Some stayed as customers; others at least got an idea.
  4. The feedback on the posts also helped improve my company’s positioning and offerings. I could target the offer to meet the needs of our industry. For most foundries, the biggest pressure point is acquiring new profitable castings. For most OEMs and Tier 1s, it means getting the new requirements into a casting. So, Casting-Campus evolved into a business development company!
  5. The latest addition came in 2023 with the Goldcasting Podcast. Together with Staffan Zetterström, I started talking about our industry. We briefly discussed the issues in all Gold Nuggets and spent most of the time showing solutions. People liked to listen, and we could talk with exciting guests to leverage even more viewpoints. And without realizing it, we built an active community on the world’s second-largest search engine, YouTube.

I learned that you cannot predict what will happen. But if you don’t try something new, it will never happen!
