Our Bold Predictions for 2025 – What’s Coming Next?
As we set our sights on 2025, we believe the coming year holds massive shifts for the foundry industry and beyond. At the Goldcasting Podcast, we’ve done our homework, sharpened our insights, and embraced the risks of looking into the future. Here’s what Staffan and Fabian foresee.
First and foremost, 2025 will mark the real beginning of digitalization in the foundry industry. While simulation software and process planning tools have been around for years, the true shift is happening now. Competition, particularly from Chinese and Asian manufacturers moving into Europe, will demand greater efficiency and accuracy. Foundries will adopt AI-driven tools to optimize production, speed up design, and provide superior service to OEMs. Those who fail to innovate will struggle to survive.
We also predict that 2025 will witness panic in the supply chain, triggered by the F-gas ban and CBAM carbon taxes. Many companies, especially those outsourcing heavily to low-cost countries, will find themselves unprepared to meet these regulations. It won’t just be an economic reckoning; it’ll be a wake-up call for sustainability and forward planning.
Communication, or the lack thereof, will also take center stage. Foundries have long been silent players in their ecosystems, but 2025 will force them to engage with the world. Whether it’s to tackle crises in Germany’s foundry sector or broader European production issues, we expect bolder communication efforts. Yet, as marketing noise increases, the question remains: who will cut through it with meaningful, tailored strategies? Generic posts won’t do.
The auto market, meanwhile, will face a continued decline in overall car sales. Consumers are tightening their budgets and looking for cheaper alternatives. Internal combustion engine (ICE) cars will likely gain ground as cost-conscious buyers opt for familiarity over unproven EV technologies. Brand loyalty is fading, and people are chasing value; plain and simple.
Globally, we anticipate a re-segmentation of markets. Production will shift further to North America, spurred by protectionist policies, while India and Japan will emerge as significant players. At the same time, cracks will appear in China’s economic stability, particularly in real estate. This could mark the beginning of a shift in global competition, though Europe, still reeling from years of challenges, may need time to recover.
On a broader note, we dare to hope that 2025 will be a year of change for the world at large. From geopolitical conflicts to economic crises, we predict a turning point, where cracks in oppressive regimes will begin to widen. It’s an optimistic view, but sometimes, bold predictions are worth holding onto.
We believe that crisis breeds opportunity. Those who innovate, communicate, and dare to be bold will not just survive; they’ll thrive. So as 2025 approaches, we encourage you to think differently, plan boldly, and prepare to adapt. The year ahead is full of challenges, but also full of promise.
