With more than 80% of the world’s gigacasting machines either installed or in the process of installation in China, it is clear that the country has rapidly taken the lead in this field. China’s dominance in gigacasting stems from several interlinked factors. While Western manufacturers often experience delays due to prolonged feasibility studies, extensive committee evaluations, and risk assessments, Chinese firms prioritize speed and a hands-on approach to problem-solving.

Companies in China are embracing rapid prototyping, where solutions are quickly built, tested, and refined in real-world settings rather than waiting for the “perfect” answer. This approach allows for faster iteration and continuous improvement.

There is also a strong versioning mindset in China. While some Western manufacturers are only beginning to experiment with their first gigacastings, many Chinese companies are already on their 17th version or beyond. This relentless iteration reflects a culture that values practical experience and rapid learning.

Moreover, Chinese software developers and academic institutions are increasingly integrating artificial intelligence into casting simulations. This innovation helps reduce computation times dramatically, identify potential defects, and optimise processes in real time.

 

The Role of China Die Casting

The China Die Casting trade show, scheduled for July in Shanghai, serves as a microcosm of this innovation ecosystem. The event features over 560 exhibitors and spans 49,000 square meters of exhibition space. One of the highlights of the fair is the live demonstration of 15 to 20 die-casting machines, providing visitors with a hands-on look at cutting-edge technology in action.

Attendees will gain unmatched access to emerging technologies, practical applications, and expert insights across the entire casting value chain, making it a must-visit event for industry professionals.

China’s rise as the global hub for gigacasting isn’t just a story of scale; it’s a story of mindset.
