Am I a Hypocrite for using AI?

A while ago, I posted about not using AI to generate content. But if you scroll through my channel or visit the website, you’ll see some AI-generated images. So, on the surface, it looks like I’m saying, “Don’t use AI” while using it myself. Let me explain.

For me, content still has to be original and linked to my persona. The value lies in the unique message, especially in text. That’s where authentic messaging shines. However, AI can be incredibly helpful regarding visuals, like the images that support a post. It’s great at creating visuals matching the tone and topic of a text I’ve written.

The same goes for repurposing content. I’ve written many posts and have full transcripts of podcast episodes. In those cases, I can provide that material to an AI model with clear instructions to stay within that style and context. The AI is way better at digging through a transcript of a podcast and compiling quotes on what I want to write about than I am. It is important to make it yours by using the output and your personal style to make it unique.

But simply prompting “write me a LinkedIn post” without context, structure, or purpose leads to generic content and with factual errors. For example, ChatGPT doesn’t really understand High-Pressure Die-Casting. That’s a problem.

So, should we use AI? Yes, but wisely. The key is knowing how and where to apply it without compromising originality. If you cannot be original, don’t post at all!
